Greetings all.

I guess there are many like me with the gold and silver bug. I love the Silver American Eagles, and I have some smaller Gold Eagles too, but no 1 ouncer yet.

I'm having some silver shot melted down into bars right now. In retrospect, buying shot is not really worth it, except perhaps if you can do it in large quantities and are able to keep shipping costs down.

My gold collection is small but diverse with some Sovereigns, 1/10 ounce gold eagles, 1/2 ounce Canadian Maple, and a few 1/4 ounce Austrian Philharmonics. I have some 1 ounce and smaller bars as well. And a prize Krugerand!

I have some one ounce Silver Philharmonics as well as some one ounce Buffalo Rounds that I think are beautifully crafted.

It's part hobby, and gives me comfort knowing it's real money. We'll see if it's a good investment, though that's really not the purpose as far as I'm concerned. It's a positive, educational, and constructive activity to have. Just have to be on the lookout for wolves, as I have met a few.

I like to follow Max Keiser and Peter Schiff. I also read Jim Sinclair's blog. Oh, and Ron Paul is my president. I watch CNBC but for the most part I distrust them.

I look forward to participating.

Welcome Beef...I have yet to buy my first Gold Eagle...it will be a fractional though. If you have the Buffalo Rounds from APMEX I cant agree more how beautiful they look. PM's are a great investment IMO, safer than the stock market right now plus PM's are rather liquid and you can cash them in rather easily. I too love the Silver eagles...Ill be buying more soon. I have a fractional Platinum Eagle coming my way as well...good luck with PM's. One thing I love about it is that you can hold on to them and appreciate them more than just money in the bank

Welcome, Beef!! You will find an enormous amount of information here as well as some good entertainment related to the subjects. Every so often, tiptoe around the squabbles. Family members make up and get on with the business of posting POVs again. Healthy discourse, I call it!! Enjoy your time on the threads.....

Welcome to the forums. I also have a small gold collection and small silver collection. I usually buy a few silver coins when I get my paycheck. I like the old 1970's art bars and I try to buy those as close to spot silver price as possible. Those are hard to find locally. I also listen to Peter Schiff and I like to listen to FinancialSense Newshour. I listen and read the mainstream media news but it much different from what Peter Schiff and others are saying about such topics such as dollar devaluation and money printing. I listen to and read articles on CNBC online but I do not believe everything that is on CNBC. I agree with Ron Paul.

Pleased to meet you, Gold and Silver is my game,
and what us gold and silver bugs do, is accumulate more the same.
I was around when they shot Kennedy, then they stopped silver coins in 64'
I protested the Vietnam war, watched Nixon close the gold door.
Pleased to meet you, won't you join my game,
do what us gold and silver bugs do, and accumulate, more the same.
I saw Nelson and Bunker, take silver, to prices insane,
only to have Paul Volker, cause me, many years of pain,
Please to meet you, won't you join my game,
do what us gold and silver bugs do, and accumulate more the same.
I watched the Twin Towers fall,
Oh then MR. Bush says, its time for war!
buying gold and silver again, would be the right call.
Pleased to meet you, won't you join my game,
do what us gold and silver bugs do, and accumulate more the same.
I've been readin' bout the subprime, yes time for the bail outs,
they're printin' more fiat, its nothin' but a crime.
Pleased to meet you, won't you join my game,
do what us gold and silver bugs do, and accumulate more the same. :565:

Good song silverwood! But remember it wasn't a treasury bailout of the banks, it was the banks robbing the treasury.

Use the Rolling Stones song, "Sympathy For The Devil" as the background music.:10_1_20:

Welcome!

If you can yet swing it, have the mint send you name-brand bars in exchange for your shot.

That's good advice, the bars are going to be weighed, stamped for purity, and with a recognized name. That's the lesson I learned from buying shot without researching first.

All in all, it wasn't that bad of a mistake, and I learned from it. One of my friends thinks this whole process is pretty cool and wants one of the bars for his son. I told him, "We don't even know what it's going to look like yet." He said, "Who cares? It's a 10 ounce silver bar!"

Did the seller warn you of the risks of buying shot for "investment"? It sounds to me that you were taken advantage of.

That's what I would have advised if I were the dealer. If I'm out of good stuff, I don't pawn off expensive scrap. I've got old time values though.

How ya been Nacca?

Thanks for asking Cubed. Fine, peasants like me always have work. Now if I worked on Wall street or was a thief banker with an "economics" degree then things would be a little tougher these days.

No, I ordered it from APMEX on line. It did suggest in the text that it has an investment purpose, however, I take responsibility for the purchase.

I wish I had warned about the stuff when I first saw it offered to the public.

Hey Beef,

I am new too and I just purchased some Canadian Maple Leafs (silver coins). I can't afford gold at this time and with talk of the feds being able to confiscate it from any American citizen makes me wonder if I should ever try to purchase any gold at all.

I just bought a 1 oz Gold American Eagle from APMEX. I don't think there will be a lot more offered in the future at the 835 I paid. I didn't overextend myself, but this is it for me. I can't afford anymore gold or silver and I am done.

Now my job is to enjoy my collection and watch the news.

I hope all of you have made some some good purchases and are happy. Silver or gold or whatever you have faith in, don't take your eye off the ball.

Regards,

Beef
